Lets be honest, most of us would rather be on social media, YouTube or Netflix rather than studying. Its so easy to keep watching that one last video that you promise yourself or that one last scroll through your Instagram.
What we need to realize is exams are approaching, the more time you waste the harder its gonna hit you as the days to your exam become closer. That's when we tend to panic and stress ourselves out, then you don't know where to start and you worry even more.
If this is relatable, do keep reading.
Here are a few tips to motivate you.
Discover WHY you procrastinate- I'm sure many of you will agree with me when I say that procrastination is one of the biggest challenges we face as a student. The best way to deal with procrastination is find out why you procrastinate. A few of the reasons could be: You've told yourself that the work is too hard and beyond your understanding, you've decided that the topic you are learning is boring, you're waiting for the "perfect" time, there is so much of the task and its overwhelming so you don't know where to start.
2. Break it down- sometimes the amount of work we get is so much that when we look at it during our homework time or study time, we feel overwhelmed at the amount of work we have to get done. To solve this issue break your work into chunks and do one bit at a time, if you have time before its submission I suggest you spread out your chunks during the days keeping in mind that you have to be done at least one day before your deadline, if it is due the very next day after it has been assigned, I would suggest you split it and then do each section with at least a 30 minute gap, I've realized that the longer you spend on doing one thing, you seem to get tired more quickly and become more inefficient.
3. Create a study routine- this is probably one of the hardest things to do, I've made a million timetables and schedules that I never followed. The way to do this is to be realistic. Most of us tend to just make a time table without really thinking about reality. When making a time table I would say use the space learning technique ( if you don't know what this is check it out in my Organization blog in the Study tips section) and make sure it something that you can actually follow. Follow this routine for at least 2 weeks consistently so that you get the hang of it. Once you do this, everything literally falls into place and is much more easier.
4. Be clear as to why you want good grades- making a list of why you want good grades and putting this up near your study area where you can view it while you are studying helps you when you are losing focus and you read it you remember why studying at that particular moment is so important. Your list could include reasons such as: I want to develop the habit of pursuing excellence, I want to be a more focused and achieving student, I want to get into a good university, I want to have a well paid job, I want to provide and keep my family happy, I want to know that in the end I gave it my best shot and I want to live with no regrets.
5. Make all your "boring" subjects interesting- to be completely honest no subject is really boring, it may be difficult or we may not understand it and that is why is seems boring to us. When you realize that this subject is difficult or you cant understand a certain concept, don't just let the content pile up like that for you to come back and try to understand it when exams are round the corner. Tackle it during your study time at home of that very same day, make it interesting by making your notes cute, asking a friend to explain it to you, watch YouTube videos or make funny sentences to remember it.
