Morning Skin Care Routine

Updated: Jan 7, 2019

Why is skincare so important?

Let me start of by telling you how important taking care of our skin is. Our skin is the largest physical barrier against infections. Keeping our skin healthy and hydrated makes this barrier strong, which is why having a good skincare routine is vital. The order of product application also makes a huge difference, the order is important to ensure that your skin receives the full benefits of each product.

How to layer skin care products.

You may be wondering about which product goes on top of which. The easiest way to remember this is to apply your products from the thinnest consistency to the thickest.

A step by step guide:

1) Cleanser

For those of you who do not know what a cleanser is, it is a product that cleans or removes dirt or other substances from your face. It is used mainly to remove makeup residue and dead skin cells, oil and dirt from your skin. This helps to unclog pores and prevent skin conditions such as acne.

Instructions:

Start off by splashing your face with warm water then wash your face with a gentle face cleanser designed for your skin type. I am currently using the Himalaya purifying neem face cleanser, and I absolutely love how it works for my skin.

2) Toner

The purpose of a toner helps remove excess dirt, oil and makeup. Its main job is to balance the pH of the skin which helps prevent pimples and acne. A facial toner thoroughly cleanses the skin and helps remove all the dead skin cells that build up on your skin . It is beneficial because it cleans and closes pores, this is especially helpful to prevent acne.

Instructions

Take a cotton ball or cotton pad and dampen it with some of the product. Pat it around your entire face. I would recommend to use the alcohol free toners especially for people with sensitive skin. Then allow it to dry before the following steps. For people who have oily skin or a combination it is better to use your toner once in the morning and once in the night. If you have dry skin it is better to apply your toner only once, preferably during the night. I am currently using the Neutrogena Alcohol- free toner. It keeps my skin nice and clean, and it is definitely my go to.

3) Moisturizer

This step is important to keep your skin hydrated. Some do provide sun protection and help improve the way your skin appears, it gives it a much more healthy and glossy look. A basic moisturizer helps hold water in the skin's outer layers . It fills in tiny crevices between surfaces to keep skin smooth. Make sure you buy a moisturizer suited for your skin type.

Instructions

After letting your toner dry completely. Take a good amount of your moisturizer and apply a thin layer on your face and make sure you do not apply it in excess. I am currently using the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Moisturizing Gel, and guys this is one of the best products I have purchased and I would highly suggest that you too give it a go.

4) Sunscreen

Many people skip this step thinking that it doesn't really make a difference ( I too was someone who thought that, but ever since I added sunscreen to my routine I have seen some drastic changes). Sunscreen has multiple purposes such as: Shielding your skin from harmful UV rays, it prevents premature aging, it lowers the risk of skin cancer, prevents tanning and sunburn and last but not least, it enhances the health of your skin.

Instructions

If your moisturizer already has sunscreen or is SPF 30 then this step can be skipped. If you have a normal anti sunscreen moisturizer this is a vital step at least according to me. Take a generous amount and apply it all over your face. It is important to use a sunscreen with SPF 30 (especially in hot countries such as Botswana). I am currently using the Clinical Extreme Protect SPF 30 and that really works for me.

And that brings me to the conclusion of my daily Morning Skin Care Routine. I hope this was helpful. Stay tuned for a Night Skin Care Routine. I would love to know your thoughts and opinions on my Daily Skin Care Routine. Feel free to talk to me on any of my social media platforms listed on my website.

Stay tuned till next time.
